The Houston Astros have signed veteran free agent infielder Marwin González to a minor league deal. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager James Click.
González, 32, is a veteran of 10 Major League seasons, the first seven were spent with the Astros (2012-18). During those seven seasons with Houston, he batted .264 (650x2466) with 76 home runs, 292 RBI and a .737 OPS in 795 appearances.
This season with the Boston Red Sox, Gonzalez batted .202 (49x242) with 14 doubles, 2 home runs and 20 RBI in 77 games. One of Gonzalez’s greatest attributes is his ability to play around the field making 171 starts at first base, 116 starts at second base, 124 starts at third base, 259 starts at shortstop and 195 starts in the outfield in his career.
González will begin to work out today at the Astros Spring Training Complex in West Palm Beach, FL.
