Bears Etc. is a bear and exotic animal rescue, founded in Montgomery County, Texas. They connect people with nature through education and awareness. Their hope is to build a state of the art facility, providing a safe place for neglected, abused and unwanted bears, that are a part of the exotic pet trade.
Founded in Montgomery, Texas, in 2017, Bears Etc. has been a dream of founder and Executive Director, Kati Krouse. Having spent the past 20 years dedicated to serving animals and the past six years to bears, specifically, Kati’s love and passion is a guiding light for the Board of Directors. In addition to providing permanent placement for rescued exotic animals, with an emphasis on bears, Bears Etc. aspires to provide animals in need the opportunity to live the rest of their lives in an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible. Bears Etc. engages the community through educational outreach programs, volunteer opportunities and, eventually, guided educational tours of the sanctuary.
Bears Etc. provides educational programs to scout groups, youth groups, schools and other community organizations that focus on endangered species, exotic animal welfare, and to encourage responsible animal care. Contact them today if you would like to have Kati come speak to your group.
Bears Etc. has also established partnerships with local grocery stores and food banks to provide food for the animals, and seeds to create a food forest. Kati is a certified Master Gardener and will develop a food forest on sanctuary property which BEARS Etc. will use to sustain the animals that reside at the sanctuary. Any excess foods are donated to food banks and other community organizations. In addition to supporting the dietary needs of the animals, the food forest is a vital component of bee farming and a butterfly garden. Bears Etc. is a certified Monarch Waystation, supporting migrating butterflies. The food forest and butterfly garden are supported through worm composting to ensure the natural soil is not depleted of its nutrients, and to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
