Montgomery County Food Bank (MCFB) announced today Amazon donated $100,000 to help the nonprofit organization further its vision of a community where everyone has access to sufficient, nutritious food.

MCFB is working hard to meet the steady demand for food assistance amid inflation and supply chain issues. MCFB and other food banks across the nation have been hit with a perfect storm of increased demand and rising costs.

In 2021, MCFB served over 9.6 million meals to those facing hunger throughout Montgomery County, feeding an average of 55,800 individuals each month.

Amazon’s generous donation has answered the call at a critical time when so many of our neighbors are struggling to put food on the table,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of MCFB. “This partnership allows us to continue closing the gap on food insecurity by investing in and expanding our programs to ensure everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.”

MCFB plans to use Amazon’s donation to advance its mission and programs so it can best serve the thousands of children, seniors, and families in need throughout Montgomery County. MCFB’s programs include school distributions, senior distributions, mobile markets, a vast network of partner pantries, nutrition education, and green initiatives such as its Produce Rescue Center.

"Our Montgomery County neighbors are facing increasingly difficult choices everyday as the cost of living rises,” said Marlow. "Food is a basic human need. People shouldn’t have to decide whether to pay for groceries or other necessities such as utilities and medications.”
